Werner Rindsberg (Walter Reed)

Walter Reed was born in Meinstockheim, Germany, and arrived in the US after making it out on the last transport from Lisbon in 1941. He changed his name from Werner Rindsberg to Walter Reed in the Army, after being sworn in as a citizen in East St. Louis. During the war, he helped de-Nazify the University at Marburg when his unit, the 95th Infantry Division entered that city in May of 1945.
